So, why did I
start this site?
We are a
typical, middle class family living paycheck to paycheck. We have some
savings, but nowhere near what is needed to send our daughters to
college. We
filled out the FAFSA for our oldest daughter and got the financial aid
package from
the school she decided on. SURPRISE! No
REAL aid. We got what most middle class
families get, a series of loans. I remembered reading
this story
about a college student
that asked a newspaper columnist to help him. He wanted the columnist to
run a story
asking his readers to send him a penny to help with his college tuition.
He didn't get his whole tuition paid for, but what he did get, helped
him.
This got me thinking that there are probably a lot of people that would
be willing
to help college students with their tuition, if only they knew about the
need.
I decided to use the power of the internet to make this need known.
I put my daughter on the site and created a fact sheet that other
college students
can submit to me so they can also be on this site. I figure the more
kids on the site,
the more that can possibly be helped. I also figured that more people
would find out
about the site, because the students themselves would help get the word
out.
I decided that all the students wanting to be on this site, would need
to open
a PayPal account. That way, I can put their Paypal link up on their page
and
I would not handle any money.
Hopefully,
this site will become popular enough to help many students pay for
college,
including my daughters
